No its not cheap but if for any reason that a cable fell (due to
engineering work further up/down the line) then imagine the
consequences if a line fell and hit a truck/car/bus.

Safety is about prevention and it's a wise choice to erect safety nets
(in my view).

When that happened round here it was the same high voltage cable being
subject to maintenance along it's length that wiggled about and
intersected a couple of local "A" roads several times.

Usually when new cables are being pulled in.

Yes it's a safety thing and it's not "just now". They've been in use for at
least twenty years that I'm aware of.

I have seen some on travelling jibs that can be quickly swung across the
road then moved on.
