From: Doug Jewell on 3 Apr 2010 01:27 The easter weekend has given me a chance to do a few jobs that have been way overdue, and among them was washing and polishing the car. Noticed that in quite a few places the clear top coat on the Calais has started to peel off, and that there are spots where the gold metallic paint is very faded. Its also got a lot of chips and small scratches that are too deep to knock out with a cut and polish. I'd really like to think there is some quick and cheap magic fix, but common sense tells me there isn't. Does anyone have an idea of the ballpark price that one would expect to pay for a respray of a large car like the Calais? -- What is the difference between a duck?

Yep, for the price of a decent job look up the market value of the car in redbook and multiply it by pi.... Unless you're looking for a cheap respray, in which case you'll be able to divide the market value by pi after the job is done. Best to consider its present state as normal wear and tear and live with it as is. :) -- John H

I know it's nice to have a nice looking car and all, but, isn't it just going to get these scratches and chips all over again once you respray it? I wouldn't bother if it's a daily driver, but if it's your weekender or something special, then a work colleague got her R8 done for $6,000 in Canberra. Looks great to me but I don't have a professional eye for such things.
