You didn't get a poor mechanic, merely someone who was trying to maximise sales as their job requires. There was obviously something wrong with the part you claimed you didn't need (but had repaired) so the mechanic didn't give you a wrong diagnosis And BTW, a lot of those cheap catalytic converters only last a year or two before you start failing MOT emissions tests. -- Conor I'm not prejudiced. I've used them years ago, they tried all the usual tricks. The last time I used them was for a tyre on SWMBO's company car a few years ago, where they managed to scrape the alloy wheel. Not been back since.
