In all honesty its easy to bend a bit of steel and weld it up so that it looks pretty, its entirely another to make a strong roll cage, there are bits in a GOOD roll cage that are under a great deal of tension, and others that are under compression, and picking the right metals to use in what part is a science in itself. -- "Calling Atheism a religion is like calling bald a hair color." Sorry, poor turn of phrase. I simply meant that there were safety requirements and you can't just weld up some tubing based on a few tips found online. > It's legal to make a roll cage for a roadgoing vehicle providing that it > complies with the safety requirements, and, if seatbelts are fitted to it, > the strength requirements. > > It's legal to build your own chassis as the basis of an individually > constructed vehicle but the cost of compliance approval gets a bit > steep... > > Interestingly, building a space frame as the frame for a body mounted onto > an existing chassis (eg HQ Holden, Toyota Crown, Hilux, L300, Triton) > without altering the wheelbase qualifies as a "rebodied" vehicle, being > still classified as whatever the chassis is.
