Oh, OK. Great. So, just so we can be clear...

I've spent this last weekend in the middle of the Peak District - just
outside Bakewell. Where's the nearest Holiday Inn, Travelodge, Premier
Inn (or similar, I'm happy to be flexible) to there?

Next weekend, I'll be at a friend's wedding in Market Deeping. Where's
the nearest to there?

The following weekend, I'll be at a friend's birthday in Lechlade.
Where's the nearest to there?

But if one is only using it as somewhere to sleep and eat breakfast does it
matter? Coupled with the fact that they're usually well placed for getting
on to a main road to go elsewhere. If one is intent on visiting various
places in the Tenby area then on the A40 roundabout seems like a very good
place.

However, if one wants the facilities of a holiday resort then
Butlins/Pontins/Haven etc is probably more suitable for you.

I'm sure their websites will be of help.

For gods sake, I'm not saying they're the answer to every holiday. But if there
is one near where you're going then its worth checking out. They're a lot
better than some of the supposedly "recommended" B&Bs I've stayed in in the
past.

Yup, they kinda prove my point.

Let's take the Peak District. One of the UK's greatest national parks -
and the nearest Holiday Inns are next to Sheffield station, by an M1
junction in Rotherham, and next to Derby's football ground. Premier Inn
at least have one in Chesterfield - for £62/night - whilst Travelodge are
Chesterfield, Alfreton or Ashbourne.

For Market Deeping, we're looking at Peterborough or Corby. Still, at
least Travelodge can do (an "outlet centre") in Spalding or (the A1 near)
Grantham. And all for roughly the same price as the B&B on a farm in a
small village, considerably closer.

For Lechlade, one of the jewels of the Cotswolds, all three suggest...
Swindon.

Can I contain my excitement at those alternatives? I don't think I can.
