From: GeoffC on 26 Jan 2010 14:51 Sooooo.... Saab who made 93000 vehicles last year and hasn't made a profit since 2001 is sold to Spyker who made 43 vehicles last year and has never made a profit. Sounds like somebody, somewhere, has confidence, (and lots of cash). http://www.guardian.co.uk/business/2010/jan/26/saab-saved-spyker-deal -- Geoff

What Saab has long needed is to be freed from having to build mediocre parts-bin repmobiles, and allowed to use a bit of the intelligence and innovation that they undoubtedly have. Fingers crossed.

Spyker have a fair bit of innovation and engineering know-how. Their race cars have done well, but I find their road car, well, weird TBF. Maybe a mix of that and Saab could come up with something worth buying? Mike P

Why indeed? Ford discovered just that with the Jag X type. BMC suits in the '50s thought it wonderful to have 5 different makes all the same apart from trim and look what happened to them... And now there are far too many cars being made. To sell a premium price model it must be special in some real way. And to compete with BMW, Merc and Jag etc is not going to be easy. -- *Why is "abbreviated" such a long word? Dave Plowman dave(a)davesound.co.uk London SW 12
