From: Atheist Chaplain on 26 Dec 2007 16:56 I spent Christmas evening at my little sisters place and had a few beers with my Bro in Law, he's a Butcher and does a bit of travel when he is sourcing some of his meats like Goat's etc On one of his recent travels he saw what appeared to be an SLR 5000 Torana under a tarp in a paddock, and thought not much of it at the time. eventually it got the better of him (as he owned one when he was younger) so he went back and asked about it, the old bloke who owned it said he was saving it to give to his son, so he forgot about it. About a month ago the old bloke was in the shop and Mick asked him how the car was going and the old bloke asked if he was still interested in buying it as he had to dig a 3 klm trench for a phone line by hand and needed some reddies to hire a back hoe. Mick goes off to see the car without the tarp and took down the all the chassis and vin numbers to check them out, they came back as an original SLR 5000 so he asked the bloke how much he wanted ............. (I'm not allowed to tell you how much but lets say it was less than 5 figures) Since he has bought it (like he would pass it up at that price!!) he has had the Drive train from the radiator to the rear bumper rebuilt, all new interior (original houndstooth seat covers etc) and will be getting it re-sprayed in the original colour to match the vin (that bright green) as it was painted in a red and black. Shannons will only insure it for $35k until they see some pictures of it and so far it has cost him less than that to almost completely restore it. I can't wait to see it finished :-) BTW he is like a kid with a new toy when he talks about it :-) -- "Calling Atheism a religion is like calling bald a hair color." Don Hirschberg

It brings back to me two events,..when I was moonlighting at a servo in the early '80s, a battered and rough sounding E38 Charger came in full of the brothers. Now they dont usually care what car they have, as long as it goes,...if only I had a batter car to swap than the 1800 at the time! The other time was an unusual Val,..a VH Pacer. These cars have disappeared from our roads now,..but where a 4-door VH sedan with E38/49 Orange paint job, a 265 manual with a 2 barrel, and of course the "Pacer" logos. That car was for sale for only $400 in 1984. Left for a radiator repair, and not picked up. The owner left the car at the servo with the message "$400 smackers and its yours". Jason
