In what respect?

You used to set the tick-over to be just fast enough to keep the engine
running, not to be fast enough to provide power to pull the weight of
car along.

I can quite happily do it in 'erselfs 2cv - with an idle so low that I
tend to give it a whiff of throttle at lights to smooth it out. I'm
driving 'erselfs 205 at the mo - and just do it as a matter of course
without thinking.

I've even managed to get a (pre-common-rail) Merc Sprinter into 5th from
standstill without touching the throttle...

Such as pulling forward too quickly.
