Also I dislike googlegroups because of the spamming element.

Are you sure that Google Groups *has* caused the problem? Looking at the above, it seems clear that Thunderbird doesn't have a problem quoting GG messages. My newsreader doesn't have a problem with quoting GG messages. The only newsreader that seems to have a problem quoting GG messages is Outlook Express. If I were a betting man I would bet that GG is blameless and the fault is with OE. -- Mike Barnes
