What are the benefits using HR12 when Subaru R134a systems perform very well
with the gas they are designed to use?

Nor is there any reason I know of why you can't simply top up with
hydrocarbon refrigerant before it loses all it's original gas (and
requires evacuation). Mixing refrigerants certainly used to work with
R12 but I've never had a reason to try it with R134A.

Biggest problem for the DIYer in the absence of a sight glass is the
need to weigh the charge. Hychill HR12 is available in disposable
cans which might solve that problem.

Of course there may be reasons other than a low charge as to why a
system doesn't cool as it ought. The ability to accurately diagnose a
faulty system remains an essential requirement.
