Alleged drunken driver strikes cop car at scene of suspected
drunken-driving crash

VINELAND � A suspected drunk driver hit a police car at the scene of
another alleged drunken-driving accident early Sunday morning near
Delsea Drive and Smith Street.

Rondell A. Durham, 31, of the 1700 block of Newcombtown Road, Millville
was apprehended at his home a short time after his car struck a police
cruiser in the southbound lane of Delsea Drive around 1:15 a.m. Durham
was charged with drunken driving, reckless driving, eluding police,
leaving the scene and failure to report an accident.

Officer Matthew Browne was directing traffic for a tow truck that was
removing a vehicle involved in a collision less than a half hour earlier
when he saw a car traveling south at a high rate of speed.

Browne moved to the northbound lane and the car, reportedly driven by
Durham, struck his police vehicle, which was parked in the southbound
lane with all of its lights flashing.

The hit-and-run vehicle allegedly continued south on Delsea Drive, but
Browne managed to get the license plate number and Millville police were
notified.
