Can't recall the last time I ever saw my wages in actual cash. One
thing about getting a nice fat envelope full of £20 notes is that it
made you feel like work was worth it. Now its meaningless numbers on a
computer screen and the only reason to go to work is to make sure the
incoming set of numbers is always higher than the outgoing.

Indeed, "sign the pay cheque" was merely a metaphor.

Neither could I, until I did and found the time went ten times quicker -
probably down to manual workers spending a whole lot more time doing nothing.
