Even on the off chance they did do the service as per the book its
highly unlikely they would pick up an incorrectly torqued bolt or 2.

I failed to mention that one of the items on the 15000km first service
for all my Mitsubishis is "Check front and rear suspension components
for alignment, damage wear and SECURITY"

If you also add to that the requirement to "Check condition of all
ball joints and all bushes" and "Roadtest steering and suspension
(including shock absorbers)"

My comment stands....

This check is SUPPOSED to be done at each 30,00km from then on so on
older vehicles included in this recall, it should also have been
picked up

If they indeed did the service per the book, they would have picked up
a loose bolt.
"The official recall notice filed with the Australian Government
claims: "Bolts may become loose in service resulting in excessive
suspension noise (knocking) and in the worst case the ball joint may
become detached from the suspension arm resulting in the vehicle being
unable to be driven."

Vehicles go back to Oct 2006.

However it is unlikely that the services involved more than an oil
change and a top up of washer fluid ....

More than likely.
The trained eye of an experienced mechanic could see a loose bolt from a
long way off but since its more than likely that if anything at all was
done its very likely that it was done by an inexperienced first year
would couldn't spot a loose bolt if it hit him on the head when it fell out.

No, it doesn't.

A 15k km's service *isn't* a first service.

Nope. Checking ball joint *fasteners* isn't part of any scheduled service
unless there's been a service bulletin relating specifically to a problem in
that area.

Keep trying though. You're doing a dame fine job of deepening that hole.
