Odd. I reckon I must have booked in a couple of thousand of them and never
heard it called that once. It was always "First service", and sometimes
"First free service".

Oh, and it was never free. Not a single customer ever got out the door
without paying for something :)

How long ago was that though? Free inspection isn't all that unusual these
days.

No I made my comment to show that IF the first services were carried
out as directed then in this case Mitsu would not have a recall.

And the point of my original post

Non dealer service workshops doo the same work as the dealers, leaving
out stuff in the book, but charge only for the work they do.
