Coalition government: Transport Secretary Philip Hammond ends Labour's 'war on motorists'
Good news and high time. Although can anyone explain how the war on motorists can be ended when there was no war on motorists in the first place? Oh no, hang on, that was just a farcical claim made by some of the more dishonest car-hating nutters on URC(M). What a pity that no- one has ever fallen for it. Yo... 26 May 2010 05:55
Restaurant damaged by car.
I am glad that the motorists on these newsgroups have finally accepted that cars are much more destructive and dangerous than bicycles. Maybe motorists are looking to go into the demolition business judging by how many buildings they are trying to demolish these days. The latest example is here... "Denby Pott... 26 May 2010 13:38
Do escape lanes work?
....the ones on steep downhill runs. Just curious - seems a bit unlikely to me that a few feet of sand could stop a massive lorry hurtling down a 1 in 4. How often do they get used in anger? ... 20 May 2010 05:11

Pylons across roads - nets being erected
I had occassion to drive a bit round the west midlands last week, and noticed in quite a few places, where electrickery pylons ran over a road, then quite considerable scaffolding had been put up either side, and a net strung over the road. Anyone know why ? It can't be cheap, so is it a safety thing ? If so, ho... 18 May 2010 07:06
Party at the Pumps.
The odd thing is there were hoots of encouragement from some passing motorists, so they can't all be bad even if they are burning oil! Or is it sheer hypocrisy? Another killer driver smashes a shop and kills a boy.
Once again demonstrating the sheer deadly destructiveness of a car compare to that of a bicycle. Electronic speed limit warning signs?
A lot of roads in my area (West Hertfordshire, Buckinghamshire and Berkshire) have recently been fitted with electronic speed limit signs that light up as you drive towards them. However I have noticed that they still light up even if you approach them at well below the speed limit, so I guess they don't actually m... 18 May 2010 04:57
Tesco Clubcard Deals
Just wondering how the Tesco Clubcard 'Deals' system works. I've just renewed my RAC membership (Roadside and Recovery) for 28.50 worth of Tesco vouchers. The same cover, purchased on-line from the RAC website, and including on-line discount, is 73.25. So who covers the difference? Same with other 'Deal... 22 May 2010 10:35
