Pedestrian Injuries - Clarification
Once upon-a-time a hospital (Kings College) decided to look at pedestrian injuries caused by falls on uneven pavements. In a 90 day period data were collected on 100 patients with injuries attributed to tripping on uneven pavements. The majority of injuries in the study were of a minor nature. One of these ... 11 Jun 2010 13:44
High Way Code omission
A thought occurred to me today... There are hardly any unmarked crossroads left nowadays. Even tiny little country lanes are usually provided with give way lines when they meet to establish priority at junctions. Why is it, then, that in one very common situation priority gets left undefined by the HWC? I'm ... 16 Jun 2010 11:06
Protesting speed cameras
Near where I live a mobile police speed camera van frequently parks on a grass verge, on public property. Would it be legal to protest in the form of holding a sign or banner, perhaps with the words "Speed kills", deliberately behind the van to block the view of the camera? ... 15 Jun 2010 04:23
Fellow cyclists, are you suffering from air pollution caused by cars?
In London the only targets currently being exceeded for air pollution levels is by NO2, not by the frequently scapegoated PM10s from diesel vehicles. http://www.londonair.org.uk/london/asp/publicstats.asp?region=0&site=MY1&bulletin=hourly&la_id=&statyear=2010&postcode= And, quote. "Car Exhaust - Air Pollutan... 13 Jun 2010 04:01
More dangerous cars!
But they are still allowed on the roads though. So if a car catches fire and thus causes the driver to loose control and kill a cyclist, who then is to blame? The cyclist for getting in the way? Or OTOH it doesn't matter because not enough people have been killed by it yet? Such are the arguments used by motorists ... 13 Jun 2010 06:10
Roadside Tributes
I am pleased that the relatively new trend of putting flowers at the scene of a road death hasn't extended to hospital beds. Imagine being given a bed in a hospital and it having old and dying bunches of flowers tied to it. Are such tributes left by people who can't be bothered to go to the funeral? ... 10 Jun 2010 13:29
Doug nearly strangled to death by a taxi driver!
I knew this would have to happen sooner or later, given Doug's hostile attitude to vehicle drivers in general. This is his version of events (from uk.rec.cycling): ------------------------------------------------------------------- "This is a new twist. We are used to cyclists being rammed but strangled? And of ... 8 Jun 2010 16:06
Old gits are fighting back!
Police in Catford, SE London, are searching for a silly old git who keeps throwing himself and his electric bike in front of unsuspecting motorists. A Police spokesman said 'It's only a matter of time before somebody gets killed or seriously injured by these foolish pranks." ... 7 Jun 2010 15:32
Another one killed on a pavement and a wall smashed!
This is becoming routine. Why can't drivers stay off pavements for a change? "Man killed when car leaves road in Hendon One man was killed and another injured when a car veered off the road and collided with them. The incident happened at about 0200 BST on Sunday on Hendon Lane, in Finchley. A VW Golf le... 13 Jun 2010 18:20
