Who's details did you write on the notice of disposal?

Hi.

On this Form:

http://www.rta.nsw.gov.au/publicationsstatisticsforms/downloads/48013716.pdf

I put in the words "Wrecked" under "Reason for Disposal", signed it
and sent it off to RTA, PO Box 21, Parkes, NSW, 2870 as required on
the form.

Were you confused by this bit?

"You may be held liable for the vehicle, including parking fines and other
traffic offences until the new operator's details are recorded by the RTA or
the registration is transferred or the plates are surrendered"

When you surrender the plates all your worries will just fade away.

Just out of curiosity who will be driving it? seeing as how it's wrecked?

Did you also remove the rego plates and sticker?
That would have been the sensible thing to do if you were concerned that
someone might drive the car.

Now that I had seen this, it sounds all so very obvious.

However, it just occurred to me it also sounds very much like "there
are not too many drivers who have never driven 3Km/h over the speed
limit" either.

Traditionally, although outright illegal, as long as you could convince
the police you were travelling between home/RTA/mechanics for the
purposes of registration, they'd do the usual warning, and leave you on
the way.
Yes, I've read through the fine print which appears to have some
allowance for this, and it is STILL illegal, and you would very much be
liable yourself if anything happened inbetween.

Might be a nice money spinner if they closed that little gap.
