Oh, and it's probably better to remove it to clean it, but then you need
to do the alignment, plus you need a new seal.

Ask on one of the VAG forums- Seat/Skoda/VW/Audi. There is bound to be a
member near you who will to the TBA for a beer or two.

It's probably worth a really carefull check for air leaks.
