I presume because it makes the grey imports easier to spot.

Is there a big market in grey imports from Ireland? Because they're the only
other RHD drive country in europe apart from malta and cyprus and I can't
see there being much profit in shipping cars from there.

Why focus on imports from Ireland? Most imports come from Japan - higher
spec and RHD.

For used cars, the traffic's the other way. There's a lot of cars get
personal-exported from the UK to the republic.

For new cars, it doesn't matter whether the source country is RHD or LHD
- you can walk into a dealer anywhere in the EU and order a RHD car.

The "Vauxhall" issue is as straightforward as many buyers still
associating "Vauxhall" as a "British car", and "Opel" as "Johnny
Foreigner". Ford, for some reason, get thought of as "British", too.

That's not strictly true - you can try, but most of them make a limited
number (quite a low number I believe) of RHD cars available.
