From: 4square on 10 Jun 2010 14:19 Wife came back from work, the engine management light on the 1.8 petrol Vectra was on, and engine seemed to be running on three cylinders. I took off the ignition pack, checked plugs, all same colour, looked good, so reassembled and it now seems OK, engine light is out. Could this have been just a bad connection somewhere, or is it sign of something which may re-occur? Car is year 2000V, 140,000m on it, and generally runs well, regular oil changes, cambelts at 40k, etc. Only previous fault in 8 yrs. I have owned it was a camshaft sensor at 50,000m. Any advice appreciated, thankyou.

Next time it does then get the codes read. Both camshaft and crankshaft sensors are a regular fault on those (as are bad connections to either)

Will the engine management light stay on all the time? I dont suppose it really matters though if it runs OK. might try as temporary measure, as its weekend now. Thank you all for replies so far.

On mine there is a stepper motor and if you pull the plug you get the engine management light on. As I understand it there are some that use a vacuum servo and if you removed the vacuum hose and plug it you don't get the engine light. I took my valve off and put a sheet of coke can between it and the mount to seal it off and it's been fine ever since. -- Regards - Rodney Pont The from address exists but is mostly dumped, please send any emails to the address below e-mail rpont (at) gmail (dot) com |
