Interesting that not only the auto braking system didn't work but the
airbags didn't go off.

Story is the battery was flat before the demo and when they jumped it it
friend the safety computer.

It wasn't going fast enough for the bags to be deployed

The car was programmed to be going at 35 kph when it hit the truck, but it
didn't work
And if 35kph isn't fast enough to deploy the air bags, then it not worth the
hype they make it out to be.
Remembering that the majority of crashes in and around the suburban areas,
occur when the cars are going at around 15 - 20 kph at impact.
what good is a product which doesn't deploy at those speeds?

A sudden stop at 15-20km/h isn't going to be 1. deadly and 2. The airbag
isn't going to be effective.

They are calibrated to go off around 40km/h+ generally where chances of
serious injury is likely, and the the decelleration speed and impact angle
are generally taken into account also. (depends on the system and age of it)

Oh well they make cars like that for non thinkers and when something goes
wrong. :-)
