Name a police state where your papers were checked routinely to make
sure you were permitted to be in that country, work there, etc is one
you would like to live in.

Unfortunately we already are. I have a Drivers License, TWIC card (port
access), airport all access badge, CHL (concealed pistol permit), SSN, so
what is another card? Maybe with a National ID I could just carry one card
instead of 5?
