I thought he was talking about the beltway libertarians... who roll over
and endorse the growth of the state at nearly every turn so they keep
getting invited to the parties.

Anybody can call themself a libertarian; it was fashionable for
Republicans for a while... and to be fair, many of them actually
believed in economic freedom (making them classic conservatives)
unlike their completely authoritarian bretheren, but scratch the
surface with the word "drugs" and that was the end of that nonsense.

For some reason there's some leftist authoritarians on usenet and web
forums who like to call themselves libertarians as well... I'm not
sure why.
