I suppose I have to bear in mind how you've said you don't care about
the semantics, but "flash", suggests more of a reactive opinion of the
car, compared to a more passive description such as "fancy", or indeed
"nice" and "new".

So of course whether the word is appropriate depends on the user. You
think it's appropriate, I don't.

Sort of related, and apologies if it's been mentioned in the thread
somewhere....

I've recently noticed a couple of mundane marques with personalised plates,
and a sticker on the window along the lines of 'this is a 2010 model'......
just in case the plate gives you the impression it's not new!
