I believe I've had a rental car (in America) which did indeed lock the
doors when you got to 10mph (but not just when the engine was running).

But, in the UK, most people don't normally manually lock their doors
when driving. However, in some areas, it's probably not a bad idea to
lock them, and I suppose that someone fleeing from the police might have
the presence of mind to lock the doors too.

Ever been pulled over by the plod? Ever seen other people having been
pulled over? Easiest example is on the motorway - the plod is always
behind the car.

Not the ones I've seen - the 'plod' is in front of the car with a flashy LED
display in the rear window saying "Pull Over".

and then unlock below about 5mph, or definitely when stopped - which he was
when they 'came' for the keys.

But don't they also unlock when you stop again (like in Rovers)
