Apologies. I could have worded it slightly more clearly to clarify that the
officer who jumped on the bonnet and the one who smashed the window were two
different people. My use of officers' (s-apostrophe) to indicate that there
was more than one officer was probably a bit too subtle.

The officer who breaks the window is striking it with *something* long and
thin. Given that police officers carry truncheons of various forms, it
seemed a reasonable assumption that this is what he'd used. However now I
look again it's too long and thin to be a conventional truncheon.

Yes, Mike, I have. While I agree that that old bloke was daft, the police
action was way ott! If they really thought he was deserving of such
treatment, they would have pulled him over Wayyyyyyyyyyyyy before he had
gone 17 miles.
