I don't know about your part of the world but I've never heard of a roads
authority doing random "rechecks".

We have random inspections here, which take the form of coppers doing "quick
lookovers" while they've got you pulled over for something else, or Vicroads
conducting genuine "random checks" where cars are pulled in to the side of
the road much like a breath test. In either case cars that fail are issued
with a defect notice, and it makes no difference to either one if the car
was recently issued with a rwc by a licensed tester.

yep, the rta used to go to "authorized inspection stations" and
literally, remove duplicate pages from the inspection book and come
visiting. now that it`s gone digital it`s even easier for them...(they
have 1 month from inspection date to do this) helps to keep the shonks
aT bay.....definitely not perfect, but seems to work. as well, the
police can also check out your vehicle any time they like....so, yeah,
there are adequate checks and balances in NSW.....

Seems that way, I've given him plenty of opportunity to answer the
question and if he came up with a reasonable answer I may even believe
him but what can you do when he refuses to answer a straightforward
question.

I got one where the bloke said $100. I knew that it had tyres slightly wider than they should,
slight crack in the windscreen and a windscreen blower that only worked on 2 and 4. (I'd say that
shouldve been okay) but for the $90 I had in my pocket he didnt even look at it, he asked me for the
mileage and did the whole roadworthy from his chair!!

The rest was checked okay by an ex mechanic mate so the safety issues were okay.

It used to cost a spot down here for an "over the phone" rwc when a
legitimate one was 50 bucks, but most legitimate ones are around a hundred
bucks these days and it's been some time since I bothered with a bodgey one.

I'm sure there's just as many of them out there as there always has been.
