It would, and I'd think the car would stop responding to the remote control
before it got here.

If the carb was poking through the firewall as in you could *see* it from
the driver's seat then he had every right to knock the car back as that's
incredibly dangerous. However why you'd be knocked back for the speedo not
being in the centre isn't exactly clear, as later model Mini Clubmans had
the speedo behind the steering column (which is generally where you moved
the speedo to when doing a Weber conversion).

Generally, when fitting such carbs to Mini's the speedo is moved to the
driver's side and a new firewall section is made that intrudes into the
space previously occupied by the speedo. In other words, a "box" is built
into the firewall that gives the carb(s) some room and seals the engine bay
off from the interior of the car.

They didn't *have* to have a seal, as there was no requirement to do so.
They had a seal to stop rainwater getting in and possibly shorting out the
ignition.

Probably not Trevor's mate, but a twin Weber equipped Mini nonetheless.

Not the greatest of pictures in terms of detail, but if you look closely at
the photo you'll see a few things. Firstly, the "box" welded into the
firewall for carb clearance. Secondly, the carbs run on only one barrel of
each on individual manifolds, and thirdly, it's not necessary to machine off
some of the "dead" barrel as Oz claims he did as there's enough room to run
the carb's side by side.

From what I can tell from this photo it's an almost identical setup to that
I ran on a couple of my own Mini's years ago, and there is nothing unique or
elaborate about it. It was considered the ultimate Mini carb combo in it's
day, and there were plenty of people who ran them on the street.
