white spirit can be lots of things/mixtures of things. But its very low and
will cause detonation in petrol engines and probably work fine in deisel
engines.

Not a lot, around 10 I think. It has quite a low self combustion
temperature.

It means different things here and in the States...if you've heard
stories of upping the octane rating of fuel, it's not OUR "white
spirit"!
