I had an early A35 van fitted with trafficators; a
previous owner had disabled those and fitted a set
of flashers as fitted to later models. The
trafficators were still there...

Perhaps it was one made to the spec of a large organisation like the GPO,
etc. They often had peculiar ideas. 803cc Minor 1000 vans spring to mind.

You can't easily convert an A30 to A35 spec flashers - the panel work has
mouldings for the extra lights.

That's correct as far as the car variant goes. Together with a chrome
bezel around the painted radiator grill and a larger back window.

I had a 1961 van also originally with trafficators, After a year or
two's wear and corrosion they had become hopelessly unreliable. It
turned out they were surprisingly complicated mechanically. IIRC They
latched in the extended position and in the home position & didn't
just hang on the solenoid. I couldn't get them to work reliably and
replaced them with flashers.

....and the painted grille and the much larger rear window.

Best wishes all,
Dave.

Sorry, does the use of the phrase "O-level" imply great age?

Blimey, you know how to wound me... I'm only 35, but I sat O-levels. (Not
woodwork, though. Wish I had. It'd be more bloody useful to my life now
than Chemistry I did do - and *certainly* more useful than RE or English
Lit.)
