Horses for courses T1-R Toyos are very soft and good gripping tyres 9000 is pretty average on a the rear of a MGF which is rear wheel drive. I could also get 40000 a set of tyres if I was also driving on MUD. Nkosi

Good grief, I get better than 15K on bike tyres and I'll guarantee I ride that more 'spirited' than you drive the MGF. -- Regards, Harry (M1BYT) (L) http://www.ukradioamateur.co.uk

You have to remember that many view a tyre as a distress purchase, and that it's bad luck to have to buy them when they finally reach the legalm limit. At that point, they buy on cost alone. provided they are round, black, and pass an MOT, that's fine. I had one fitter try to sell me an awful no-name cheapy rather than Conti because it 'had more tread depth'. Apparently I was 'wasting my money', despite the fact that I was buying the Conti to match the brand-new spare that was going on the other side. The worst I've ever experienced was phoning up for a pair of NCT2s for my Golf, being told they were in, leaving the car, and coming back to find a pair of cheapy 'made by Goodyear' tyres on the car. I had them put the old tyres back on, and went elsewhere.

Believe it or not, many people choose to drive well withing the safe handling limits of the worst tyres. Why should they pay more? If people choose to drive in such a way that they believe a certain type of tyre will keep them safe no matter how reckless they drive, then they are invariably the prat. |
