Nothing particularly new in the Construction and Use regs.
Motor vehicles parked at night on a road must have the near side as close
as possibly to the edge of the carriageway (i.e. park on the footway if you
are facing the wrong way). It is reasonable to assume that near side refers
to the left of the vehicle, even if it is a LHD vehicle.

Not a question of knowing it - but rather having the time to do it. And also
I just wonder what the anti-police posters on uk.legal would have to say
about officers going about at night putting FPTs on cars parked on the wrong
side of the road?

Has that always been the rule? I thought you were allowed to park on the
wrong side of the road at night (where not prohibited by yellow lines etc)
as long as you parked with your side lights on.

On similar note, why is it that when giving way behind a parked car, some
oncoming drivers think it's a good idea to blast their lights in your face?

I'm pretty certain that, in Belgium, in the early 80s, they made it
illegal to park against the direction of traffic at any time of day or
night. I don't know about other European countries.

I might be wrong but, in the UK, isn't illegal to park with your
headlights on?
