And why shouldn't drivers use their left foot for braking in an automatic? I find it quite convenient especially when manouvering.. Mike.

You can think what you like. I find it extremely uncomfortable sitting behind a car with high-intensity stop lights shining in my face.

I disapprove of people using anythng other than their handbrake when they are stationary, maybe because it was drummed into me by my driving instructor and later by the IAM that this is a no-no. But it is the intense bright red light (whether brake light or fog light) in my face which I actually find objectionable and which causes me great discomfort, making it difficult to drive safely. Bright headlights on oncoming traffic are less of a problem because they only last a few seconds until the car has gone past.

Sounds like a wind up if you believe automatics are not 'proper cars' But how does your reply answer my question? I do find it very easy to use my right foot to operate the brakes, but find in an automatic it's often more convenient to use my right foot to operate the accelerator, whilst the left does the braking. Why move ones foot from the accelerator to brake, then back again, when you can use your idle left foot instead? I choose to drive an automatic, but that doesn't mean I can't legally drive a manual. I frequently drive my wifes 'proper car?', a manual Corolla, and I also have a manual Berlingo van. Mike. |
