Because of > the way many Peugeots/Citroens seem to be wired, pulling the fuse will > probably also disable the rear left indicator and BBC radio 1, 3 and 5 > on the stereo. > > -- > Douglas Cheers Douglas, I have checked the wires where you said and and there are no breaks or snips but it does think that the front passenger door is open as when i am driving the light will come on and it will start bleeping saying that the passenger door is open but its not, then it will go off then back on again. i could lock the car with the key in the passenger door and that would lock all the doors but it will not let me now.. the problem seems to be the passenger door but i ain't got a clue as to what it could be.. with what i have said has it shed anymore light on you to think it coulod be something else....cheers

But you could try gullwing doors. On a more serious side, quite often general electrical faults can be traced to grounding faults, either rust at the bolt, or chafed wiring wearing through the insulation and making short circuits. If that isn't the case, the actuators in the doors can some times get stuck and either not work and cause fuses to blow, or get out of adjustment and cause the locking to rebound instead of lock. I'd be surprised if there was any adjustment available around the actual actuator in a car like a Xsara, they really are designed to be put together by monkeys. The adjustment for the door panel gaps is more likely to be on the hinge bolts and on the pin that the door locks to, but I could be wrong. I think on the rear 306 door I took apart, the actuator was built in as part of the latch mechanism. The whole thing was held to the door with a couple of Torx bolts. Once you've unfankled the linkage to the pin and handle I suppose it's quite easy to remove the actuator/latch from the door - except it's inside a door and you've got all sorts of sharp bits of metal and the window winding mechanism to work your way around in a relatively small space. It took me a while as I'd never done it before. -- Douglas

It sounds like a problem with your passenger door then. Is there a little black plunger in the gap between the wing and the door when it's open that gets pushed in when the door is shut? Does fiddling with it make the display think the door is open or shut? Sometimes the contacts on these switches get dirty or corrode away to nothing. That would be a cheap fix if it is the problem. I think it's either a bad connection in a connector block somewhere, a broken wire, duff switch or a gubbed lock/latch assembly. When I had a Citroen, that switch in the door gap was only for the courtesy light and the way the C/L sensed that a door was open was in the lock/latch assembly in the door. However, that was a 1989 BX. Things may have changed. If you want to fix it yourself, visit a breakers and see if you can get the lock/latch assembly from them. It might be worth getting a whole door (making sure it's got central locking), as you can practise and it won't matter if you bend or break part of the scrap door. Otherwise hand it to a decent car electrician or Peugeot/Citroen specialist who'll be used to fixing stuff like this and has probably seen it before. -- Douglas |
