That's a remarkably reflexive comment, it is. You should consider that a
loan at a lower than market rate by the government is by definition a
subsidy. Governments give students student loans that they might not
otherwise be able to get or might only get at higher interest rates as a
means to subsidize their higher schooling.

the company and sell its assets (or whatever) if it defaulted? Certainly
that's happened enough to Joe Farmer to make it not write home about it

The idea was to pay for them over a number of years in a lease
arrangement and reduce the upfront costs.

2) It's the military division, although it was military version of their
commercial aircraft.
3) Boeing's commercial division has to make a profit or why have it?
