Could someone please recommend a reliable shop in sydney that machines
heads and or reconditions them, preferably the cheapest that still does
a good job?

When Repco had workshops, they did a good job,...now they dont have anywhere
near the number of workshops,..in fact they maybe out of the recoing

Nod used to work in one of their workshops....

I realise that what you are asking is NOT the same as 'the cheapest
place out there', but believe me, it's not an area to penny pinch.
Presumably you're looking for a reco, not just skimming the deck surface
(admittedly practically anyone can do that) - in which case, the
machining work is not likely that different, but the minimum standard of
what constitutes well cut seats, ideal valve to valve guide clearance
and even valve brand/material if the existing ones can't be reclaimed,
well that can vary the price somewhat, and based on that, it's usually
money well spent, given you'd likely want it to perform satisfactorily
for a good decade/few hundred thousand kms or more.

But to answer your question - I'm in melbourne, so can't help with a
local one. I can recommend a few places i melbourne and believe it or
not in adelaide ...

I once rang up to enquire about the cost of a head job and they hung up on me!

No surprises there, any of the better operators usually like to see
your head before they'll give a quote.
