How can wearing padded protection around your head possibly not reduce
trauma and the risk of serious head injury?

How can you have been told so much about a subject, and not taken any in?

How can something which is certain to improve your odds not have any
tangible effect on the odds observed in populations?

And so on.

For someone claiming a professional science background you're /much/ too
fast to jump to certainty in your conclusions.

Pete.

I don't believe that any reputable study has not found that helmets
reduce the KSI rate for cyclists. Sorry about the double negative!

A lot of the trauma is caused by your brain sloshing around inside your
skull. A serious type of trauma is rotational rather than front to back
or side to side. Essentially the brain tries to part company with the
brain stem and spinal chord. Cycle helmets are probably best at
preventing minor cuts and grazes to the scalp. Minor head wounds tend to
be very messy, with quite a lot of blood loss.

I can't help thinking that people who think helmets don't help should try
headbutting a wall with a helmet , then try it without and compare the
results.
