How can you have been told so much about a subject, and not taken any in? How can something which is certain to improve your odds not have any tangible effect on the odds observed in populations? A serious type of trauma is rotational rather than front to back or side to side. Essentially the brain tries to part company with the brain stem and spinal chord. Cycle helmets are probably best at preventing minor cuts and grazes to the scalp. Minor head wounds tend to be very messy, with quite a lot of blood loss.
