From: les on 27 Apr 2010 01:26 Have a mk 2 ford focus diesel estate 51 reg 2002 with 2 keys but have not got one with a zapper. Can someone tell me if this model came with a zapper and if so how many buttons should it have. If it should have one can i just buy one off ebay and program or reprogram it myself? or isn't it that simple? Why Im asking is that we had a similar situation with my wifes smart car and I got a keyfob without the blade, although you could not start the car with it, you could open the doors, we found it really handy as my wife would carry it in her handbag as an emergency get in. I haven't got a handbook but have sent for a workshop manual. I know handbooks are available to download but they are US versions.

It should have a three-button one that looks like eBay no. 130333041505. (Not suggesting you should buy this, BTW!) Programming can be done yourself in-car; it will be a two stage process. You need to program the remote signal, and you need to get the car to accept the PATS device. As long as you have two *working* keys, you can DIY it. Information is available on line, or ask again here. Second hand keys are rare; they sometimes come up on eBay. You can buy the separate front part that operates the lock as a blank readily, and most locksmiths can cut it, although you might have trouble convincing them that you don't need to pay them 25UKP to copy the programming over! Complete owner's documentation sets are often listed on eBay, and also might be less costly than you would imagine from a dealer. HTH Chris -- Remove prejudice to reply.
