Lots.

They might not have been running terribly well, but they were still running.

It must have had a threaded oil filler cap. A "push in" one would have been
stuck to the underside of the bonnet :)

Some cars as well.

Fiats if I remember correctly have an oil pressure cut out wired into the
ignition system. Jaguars most definitely should have one :)

Maybe not literally seized, but you would know you have a serious engine
problem if you run it out of oil to the point where it seizes and it
recovers to run again.
I don't think you would have to be asking what the problem was if you did
that to an engine.

Yeah yeah, but for those that do it's pretty obvious that there is some
serious issue both before and after seizure.
