The Octavia doesn't have any particular weaknesses, so just the usual
used car checks really.

That mileage seems very low though. Is that really right? Is there a
service history?

I'd be *very* suspicious of that mileage. Nobody in their right mind would
pay the extra for a TDI to only cover 23k in 5 years. Of course there could
have been a change of circumstances etc etc - if it's a private sale and you
can tell that there's a genuine reason for the mileage being that low then
fair enough, but regardless, I'd be very suspicious. Skoda UK wouldn't be
able to confirm anything more than the fact that when it's been in for a
service the mileage vaguely tallied up, but I've heard of people
disconnecting the speedo cable for large amounts of time to keep the mileage
down on a car - I wonder if there's any way of using VAG-COM to tap into the
ECU to see if there's any evidence as to whether or not the mileage would be
genuine?

Hmm, lots of knackered turbos on TDi Octavias, so I'd say that was a
known weakness. I've seen several observations that this is because they
are fleet cars and the drivers don't give a monkeys about the engine so
they scream down the motorway, pull into a motorway service station for
the Ginsters and Latte and turn the engine off without allowing it to
idle for a time hence the oil cooks in the bearings. However it seems
that Octavias do suffer disproportionately from turbo problems based on
how many callouts I used to hear for Octavias with knackered turbos.
