From: ChelseaTractorMan on 6 Mar 2010 09:01 For those who think its older drivers who are dangerous the IAM comment that older drivers are "considerably safer", the 8% of drivers who are over 70 contribute to 4% of injury accidents while the 15% of drivers who are under 30 contribute to 34% making young drivers 4 times as dangerous as old. The IAM are also worried about 50 something men under work pressure and far too often seen arguing about the accident (or worse) on the hard shoulder. Torygraph report Jan 30 (I only just got round to reading!). -- Mike. .. . Gone beyond the ultimate driving machine.

Older drivers tend to have a lot of non injury accidents so just quoting injury accidents is a bit misleading. That's not to say that youngsters don't but the figure quoted makes them look good. -- Conor I'm not prejudiced. I hate everyone equally.

Love the use of "contribute to".. seems to me older drivers contribute to a lot of accidents they are not actually involved in.. as always there's lies, damn lies, Statistics and Dhoug..

I have always wondered about this and similar comment. How does a person or a particular group actually contribute to accidents they are not involved in?

I've seen doddery old drivers crawling along a perfectly good road, yet where it can be difficult to overtake them. Result lots of frustration and less than safe overtakes. Driver pulls out of side road without properly checking it is clear and a another driver hits another vehicle in the course of trying to avoid them. -- Regards, Harry (M1BYT) (L) http://www.ukradioamateur.co.uk
