another NG, a cyclist writes the following (among other things in a longer post):

"Traffic lights tend to be a nuisance ...

"When the lights switch to amber, car drivers tend to use that as a
signal to accelerate through the lights. A cyclist is more likely to
indicate it as a signal to stop... "
