not likely as Stewart says. However, if there'd been a major gas leak as a
result of a safety device on the line (the self-sealing breakable joint
thing) not functioning, then you might not be liable for that - I suspect
they're required to be installed and that making it so that it doesn't break
when it should is naughty.

You broke it therefore your fault and they will claim off your
insurance company.

Perhaps you might have a case in the cashier allowed you to pay for the
goods without the hose been disconnected. I know petrol pumps won't
allow the payment until the nosel has been replaced and therefore the
pump cuts off.

Thanks for the replies everyone,

They haven't got in touch yet so I hope I'm all clear.

Cars got a big dent in though and I'm pretty pissed off at myself for
that.
