It's exactly that. The entire premise of SS is to force people to put aside money for the inevitable day when they will not be working but will still need money to live. that's exactly the same reason that we also force people to pay into Medicare. not understanding this - is not understanding what the real issues are. the majority of people in this country are wooses when it comes to street people that are 80 years old and die on the steps of the ERs unable to get treated because they are destitute. If we were willing to do this - let the elderly go homeless and die.. we could then do away with Medicare and SS but until we are willing to do that Medicare and SS will not go away. You're dreaming if you think otherwise.
