From: Anne Onime on 6 Aug 2010 02:15 My engine developed a noise a few weeks back. A mechanic told me it was crankshaft bearings (the engine has done 250,000 km). It is worse the last couple of days. Then I noticed the temperature guage is about 1/8 higher than normal. I had a look at cooling system, and when I took off the radiator cap, there is brown cream on it, and the filler neck. Is this oil getting into the coolant, i.e. a failed gasket?

That is oil getting into the coolant. It could be getting into the coolant for a whole bunch of reasons, most of which are a lot worse than a head gasket. So you should _hope_ it is a head gasket. If your crankshaft bearings are going bad, it might be because you have coolant in the oil as well and your bearings are not being properly lubricated. If you have been driving a couple weeks like that, you might as well just replace the engine now. --scott -- "C'est un Nagra. C'est suisse, et tres, tres precis."
