A GORING man jailed for molesting three young girls has lost a bid to
reduce his prison sentence.

Kevin Mark Buchannan, 47, of Elvenden Lane, was found guilty of five
counts of indecent assault at Reading Crown Court in October.

He was jailed for 30 months and given an indefinite sexual offences
prevention order.

Buchannan, who worked part time at Thames Valley University, still
protests his innocence and argued at the Appeal Court in London that his
sentence was “manifestly excessive”.

But Lord Justice Pitchford, sitting with Mr Justice Akenhead and Judge
Clement Goldstone QC, rejected his case, saying the offences were
committed over a prolonged period and got worse each time.

Judge Goldstone said: “A total of 30 months for these offences is well
within the bounds of the sentencing guidelines. It is not excessive, far
less manifestly excessive.”

However, he varied the order on Buchannan, removing the prohibition on
him accessing the internet.

Buchannan, who watched proceedings from the dock, was told he would face
a maximum of five years' imprisonment if he breached the order.
