It's worth replacing them with standard Jubilee ('worm drive') clips. I use a pair of adjustable pliers, like this one: <http://www.screwfix.com/prods/37966/Hand-Tools/Pliers-Cutters/Water- Pump-Pliers/Waterpump-Pliers-203mm-8> the jaws in the teeth grip the two ends of the spring, making it less likely to slip off, and the pliers can be adjusted for different sizes of spring. I don't use them "end-on", but "side-on" IYSWIM. Also useful for the same clips used on washing machines, dishwashers, etc. -- (\__/) (='.'=) Bunny's thinking about giving Windows 7 (")_(") a go despite what he's said about it...
