The short-term insurance sites claim you can use their policies to tax
the car.

So presumably as soon as you've bought the insurance for one day it will
show up for online taxing purposes?

It would be covered by my own car insurance as driving my wife's car with
her permission? Just need the temp insurance to get it taxed.

Ah, OK. You didn't mention that it needed taxing as well.

Yes, you will need cover specifically for that vehicle in order to tax
it, although if you do it at a post office, the interpretation of whether
a particular piece of paper will be acceptable or not will vary wildly
according to the whim of the counter clerk!

What sort of value does the vehicle have?

If you are going to have to pay for short-term insurance, and a minimum
of a month's tax, can you transport it without driving it? Do you have
access to a vehicle with a tow bar? If so, perhaps trailer hire?

Or can you not sell it from its present location? Even if you don't get
so much for it, you will save the insurance and tax costs.

Call your insco. I have done occasional weeks for 6 with Direct Line.

Someone else mentioned about driving on your own insurance. I don't think
that's wise because your car doesn't seem to have insurance in it's own
right (no tax disc). Certainly in my case, the original owner was deceased
(hence no insurance) and I was driving it at the same time as my wife was
driving our car. I don't see how two cars can possibly be covered to be
driven at the same time on one policy.
