Sure, but paying taxes to build the Western, Greensborough, Geelong freeway
etc. which I hardly use, AS WELL as paying Tolls for Eastlink and Citylink,
which I *would* use more often if it was free, does annoy me somewhat, when
the Western suburbanites get it all for free.
And while Eastlink may be OK because it goes nowhere near town, you cannot
say the same about the old South Eastern Freeway, now Tollway, and
Tullamarine Freeway, now Tollway! All of those roads were adequate for me
originally, because I mostly used them on weekends. And yet Eastlink is the
only one to even have a weekend discount, they should all be FREE off peak
at least! (now that's the best idea, make them ALL free off peak and ALL
tolled during peak periods) I hardly ever use the Eastlink tunnels because
it's hard to justify the expense to save <5 minutes, if you are paying out
of your own pocket, and you don't earn more than $50 an hour after tax!

IMO tolls are a rip off because as far as I'm concerned motorists
already pay more than enough to cover the cost of building decent roads
so to make things fair for both sides of Melb I would remove all the
tolls instead of tolling existing roads in the west.

Are the tolls added to existing roads because they upgraded the roads or
did they just one day stick a toll on them

it's either pay more on fuel and rego or pay tolls

Some of both, Tullamarine and Monash were existing roads that they
upgraded then tolled, Eastlink is a new road that was tolled from day one.

Shouldn't need to do either because we have already paid enough in
vehicle related taxes to build those roads 10 times.

AFAIK there are end dates to the contracts but most of us will be dead
before then.
