From: |-|ercules on 26 Jun 2010 21:52 My coolant tank was empty so I put some water in, then a couple weeks later I go in the McDonald's drive through and there's steam coming out the bonnet! There was only one car in front so I went through the drive through steam and all and parked in McDonalds, waited a couple hours until the temp was right down. I had some water bottles and filled them at the servo across the road, filled the radiator and coolant tank and was fine. Then 2 weeks later, yesterday I'm driving along and there's a hot oil smell and see the temp gage is at max again. I don't know why they don't have a buzzer when they are 80% high, but anyway I go through a red light into the Woolworths car park and wait until the temp is down to half and fill the radiator with water. There was no steam that time but after a minute of filling the radiator some steam comes out, but when I totally fill it it stops. This time I bought some coolant, so I drive for 5kms, then I park the car and let it idle for 15 minutes to keep the aircon going, drive again and park and when I go to take off the revs drop when I put it in reverse and it stalls and won't start. I should mention (to give you the WHOLE story!) it stalled just as I pulled into the Woolworths carpark too. So after half hour it still won't start so I walk around for a bit and come back an hour later and it works fine. So if I damaged the engine, why would it drive ok for 20 minutes and then not start? Plus it seems to run fine again. What would you do, sell it while it still runs and 1 months rego left, or get a service? I'd get rid of it. If you overheated it to the extent that it stalled and wouldn't start, you would have surely warped the head and probably caused heaps of other problems. Cars are pretty cheap at this time of the year (end of financial year sales etc)

Try stick to stuff you know about - like how to hide outside primary schools etc.
